Duration: 4 Hours

Embark on a fascinating half-day adventure exploring the ancient Roman frontier along Hadrian’s Wall, a UNESCO World Heritage site that once marked the edge of the Roman Empire. This tour focuses on the fort at the eastern end of the wall – Segedunum – where you’ll discover incredible reconstructions of Roman life and learn about the soldiers who once guarded this important boundary.

Your journey begins at Segedunum, located in modern-day Wallsend, where you’ll step into the Roman world. Here, you’ll have the chance to walk along a section of the original wall and explore reconstructed structures that bring the Roman way of life to life. Segedunum was home to a mixed cavalry and infantry unit from France – the Fourth Cohort of Lingones – stationed here to protect the frontier from attacks and keep control of the surrounding landscape.

After exploring Segedunum, we’ll continue to the Great North Museum in Newcastle, where one of the largest collections of Roman artefacts in northern Britain awaits. Your expert guide will provide fascinating insights into Roman culture, daily life, and the people who lived on the northern edge of the Empire.

This tour is perfect for history enthusiasts or anyone looking to immerse themselves in the legacy of the Romans, all while being close to the vibrant urban areas of Tyneside and Newcastle.
